AI development · Kenya
AI for Kenyan M-Pesa, agritech and fintech teams.
Bvyte is an AI and software studio in Ahmedabad; Nairobi is 2.5 hours behind us. Our assistants, document AI and software serve Kenyan fintechs, agribusinesses, enterprises and NGOs, around mobile money, English and Swahili, and the Data Protection Act 2019.
Start a projectMobile money is the interface
In Kenya, a customer often does not open a bank app: they send money, pay a bill and sometimes take a loan from a phone menu or a message. Services designed for that behaviour feel natural, and services that ignore it feel like extra work. We start with the journey a customer already completes on their phone, and add AI where it removes a wait or an error.
Overview
Designing AI around Kenya's mobile money habits
Kenya's customers have long managed money through their phones, and businesses that fit that habit do better than those that ask people to change it. The same applies to AI. An assistant that lives where customers already are, confirms payments clearly and speaks the language they write in is more likely to be used than a polished portal.
We start by walking through a real journey on a phone and marking where people stall. Then we build the shortest fix, test it in English and Swahili on mid-range devices, and release it to one product, branch or cooperative. For agritech and NGO clients, we add structured field data and reporting that funders and boards can read, so the programme can show its results in numbers.
What we build
What Kenyan teams hire Bvyte to build
Mobile money, field operations and bilingual customers shape the offer, and so does the need to measure impact for funders and boards.
-
01
M-Pesa aware customer journeys
Payment confirmations, statements and failed-payment support built around M-Pesa through its official interfaces, with retries and duplicate handling.
-
02
English and Swahili assistants
Assistants that follow English, Swahili and the mixed form many customers write, tested on your own conversations. See AI chatbot development.
-
03
Agritech advisory and records
Advisory assistants for farmers and field officers, and records for inputs, deliveries and cooperatives structured for reporting. See LLM and AI agent development.
-
04
Grant and programme reporting
Field reports, forms and surveys read and consolidated for donors and boards, with every figure traceable to its source. See document AI and automation.
-
05
Light, offline-first software
Apps for field teams that capture data offline and sync later, on mid-range devices. See custom software and SaaS.
-
06
Data Protection Act aware design
Registration, consent and retention considered with the Data Protection Act 2019 and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in mind, confirmed with your counsel.
Process
How we work with Kenyan teams
Fixed fee per phase, a measured exit gate at the end of each, and working software from the first weeks. See every playbook week by week.
- 01
Journey walk-through
Walk a real customer or field officer journey on a phone, and mark the points where people stall or drop off.
Week 1
- 02
Language and channel test
Collect English and Swahili messages and test across WhatsApp, SMS and web, on mid-range phones.
Weeks 2 to 3
- 03
Pilot in one region or product
Launch with one cooperative, branch or product, with field staff giving weekly feedback.
Weeks 4 to 9
- 04
Scale with evidence
Share results with your board or funders in plain numbers and extend where they hold.

Local detail
Kenya specifics we design around
M-Pesa through Daraja
Payment prompts, paybill and till flows and callbacks that can arrive out of order are handled explicitly, with reconciliation that survives retries.
Swahili, English and Sheng
A single conversation can use all three. We measure accuracy on your real chats before deciding what to automate.
KRA eTIMS invoicing
Businesses issuing tax invoices work with the KRA eTIMS system. We build invoice and receipt flows that can feed it, subject to your tax advisers' reading of the rules.
ODPC registration
Data controllers and processors in Kenya generally need to register with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner. We document processing activities to support that.
- Journeys designed around mobile money and messaging, not a desktop dashboard.
- Swahili and mixed-language writing tested on your real messages.
- Software that works offline and on mid-range devices for field teams.
- Reporting that serves funders and boards as well as operations.
- A 2.5 hour difference, which keeps daily calls easy.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Ask us directly, a senior engineer replies within one business day.
What is the time difference with Kenya?
India is 2.5 hours ahead of Kenya, which uses East Africa Time all year without daylight saving. The gap is small and constant, so your working day overlaps almost entirely with ours.
Can you integrate with M-Pesa?
Through the provider's official interfaces, yes, subject to onboarding and approval by the provider. We design for timeouts, delayed callbacks and duplicate confirmations, which are common in mobile money flows.
What does the Data Protection Act 2019 mean for us?
The Act sets principles for processing, rights for data subjects and duties for controllers and processors, with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner as regulator, including registration and rules on transfers abroad. Some categories of data may need particular handling. We design to that Act and suggest Kenyan counsel confirm the specifics.
How good is Swahili in current models?
Usable for many tasks, though less polished than English. Mixed Swahili and English, common in messages, needs testing. We measure on your content, show the results and add human fallback where the model is weak.
Can you work with NGOs and funded programmes?
Yes. We can structure scope and deliverables to match grant requirements and reporting needs, with clear documentation for audit.
Do you visit Nairobi?
On larger programmes we can join you in Nairobi for a discovery workshop. Everyday work is remote.
Can you build for farmers with basic phones?
Yes. We design SMS and USSD fallbacks through available aggregators alongside WhatsApp, so the service reaches people whatever phone they have.
Do you work with NGOs on fixed grants?
Yes. We structure phases and deliverables to fit grant timelines and reporting needs, and provide documentation for auditors.
