AI for Africa's mobile-first, multilingual businesses.

Bvyte is an AI and software studio in Ahmedabad, 2.5 to 4.5 hours ahead of most African business hubs. We build customer journeys on WhatsApp and mobile money, assistants in the languages your customers speak, and software that copes with patchy connections, with local data protection laws in mind.

Built for how customers actually reach you

In many African markets the customer relationship runs through a phone: a WhatsApp message, a mobile money prompt, a USSD menu or an SMS. An assistant that only works in a fast desktop browser misses most of that. We start with the channel your customers already use, design for small screens and costly data, and add AI where it removes a real queue.

Overview

Building AI for Africa's mobile-first markets

Africa is not one market, and no single AI product fits all of it. Customers in Lagos, Nairobi, Johannesburg and Cairo reach businesses through different channels, speak different languages and pay in different ways. What they share is a phone-first relationship with companies: messages, mobile money, short calls and sometimes USSD or SMS. Good AI work here starts from that reality, not from a desktop dashboard.

Our approach is to choose one journey, such as order status, onboarding or collections, and build it on the channel your customers already use. We test on ordinary phones and weak connections, measure language quality honestly, and plan a human fallback for what the model handles poorly. Data protection is handled country by country, with local counsel. When the first market works, the same pattern extends to the next with its own checks.

What we build

AI services for businesses across Africa

Channel, language and connectivity decide whether an AI project works in these markets, so they come before the model.

  1. 01

    WhatsApp customer journeys

Support, onboarding, orders and collections on the WhatsApp Business Platform, with human handover. See AI chatbot development.

  2. 02

    Mobile money aware flows

Payment prompts, confirmations and reconciliation designed around providers such as M-Pesa, MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, through each provider's official interfaces, with failure and retry paths.

  3. 03

    Multilingual assistants

English, French, Arabic, Swahili and Afrikaans as needed, tested language by language, with escalation to a human speaker where the model is weaker. Other local languages are assessed case by case.

  4. 04

    Low-bandwidth, mobile-first software

Light web apps and offline-first mobile apps that load quickly on weak connections and keep work until a signal returns. See custom software and SaaS.

  5. 05

Document AI for onboarding and trade

IDs, proof of address, invoices and shipping papers read and validated, with exceptions sent for review. See document AI and automation.

  6. 06

    Data protection by design

Data maps and controls prepared with South Africa's POPIA, the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019 and Egypt's Law No. 151 of 2020 in mind, reviewed with your counsel in each country.

Process

How we approach a first African market

Fixed fee per phase, a measured exit gate at the end of each, and working software from the first weeks. See every playbook week by week.

  1. 01

    Channel and language review

Look at how customers reach you today, which languages they write in and which journeys are worth automating first.

    Week 1

  2. 02

    Prototype on real devices

Test on mid-range phones and throttled networks, not office wifi, so design decisions reflect reality.

    Weeks 2 to 4

  3. 03

    Pilot in one country

A staged launch in one market, with its own data rules, languages and payment channels, measured against the baseline.

    Weeks 5 to 8

  4. 04

    Extend

Add the next country with its own checks, rather than assuming one launch fits every market.

Use cases

African sectors we build AI for

  • Fintech and payments

Onboarding document checks, support on WhatsApp and dispute handling around mobile money transactions.

  • Telecoms and digital services

Customer care assistants, bundle and billing queries, and search over agent training material.

  • Logistics and distribution

Delivery status over WhatsApp, proof of delivery documents extracted and dispatch assistants for fleets.

  • Agriculture and agribusiness

Advisory assistants in local languages, input and produce order flows and cooperative record keeping.

  • Retail and consumer goods

Order taking from small retailers by message, and reconciliation of orders against stock.

  • Education and health services

Enrolment, fee and appointment flows on mobile, and administrative document handling.

  • Time overlap with most African hubs, so daily contact fits inside your working day.
  • We design for the phone first: WhatsApp, mobile money and USSD fallbacks, not desktop first.
  • Language coverage tested honestly: we report where model quality is weaker and plan a human fallback.
  • Country by country data protection thinking, not one policy for a whole continent.
  • Lightweight engineering for patchy networks and low-cost devices.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Still unsure? Ask us directly, a senior engineer replies within one business day.

What is the time difference with African business hubs?

India is 3.5 hours ahead of South Africa, 4.5 hours ahead of Nigeria, 2.5 hours ahead of Kenya and 2.5 to 3.5 hours ahead of Egypt, depending on daylight saving. In each case your working day falls within ours, so daily calls are practical.

Which data protection laws apply?

It depends where your customers are. South Africa has the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Nigeria the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, Kenya the Data Protection Act 2019 and Egypt the Personal Data Protection Law, Law No. 151 of 2020. Each has its own rules on consent, security and cross-border transfers. We design with them in mind and recommend local counsel for every country you operate in.

Can you integrate with mobile money?

Where the provider offers an official API, yes. Access usually depends on onboarding with the provider or an aggregator in each country, a commercial step we can help coordinate. We design for failures, timeouts and duplicate prompts, which are common in payment flows.

How well do AI models handle African languages?

Quality varies. English, French, Arabic and Afrikaans are generally well supported by current models, and Swahili is usable for many tasks. Smaller languages such as Hausa, Yoruba or Zulu need careful testing and often a human fallback. We measure each language and tell you what is ready. Our guide on AI for African businesses covers the approach.

Do you design for low bandwidth?

Yes. Pages are kept light, apps work offline and sync later, and messaging channels such as WhatsApp or SMS are used where they suit customers better than an app. We test on mid-range devices and throttled connections.

Can you work across several countries at once?

We usually pilot in one country, then extend with separate test sets, legal review and payment integrations for each, since rules and channels differ from market to market. Our country pages for South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, Ghana and Morocco set out the detail for each.

Do you visit African clients?

A discovery workshop on site is possible when the project warrants it. Delivery runs remotely, with daily contact inside the working day of your country.

Can you support USSD and SMS as well as WhatsApp?

Where customers need them, we design USSD and SMS fallbacks through the aggregators and telecom partners available in each country, alongside WhatsApp and web channels.
